i think law should be thought in school. we had to learn history to understand our past, geography to study the earth, religion studies to understand the rules and practices of their faith, so why not let people learn about their rights?
in most of the cases i have come across in my course, what i've come to realize is that most people do not know their rights. so this is why there are lawyers out there? to tell them their rights..after a crime/ breach of contract etc has been done?
i don't think it should be thought in depth, that is why universities have degrees in history and geography, you can't possibly teach everything in school.
a person should not..have a feeling..or by luck and chance..thing that they might have a right in something and then only seek professional advice.
when people have even the faintest idea of how the law works.. it could even help law practitioners.
lets say in rape cases, where an offender pleads not guilty stating that they were not aware of it being wrong. it makes it difficult for the lawyers to establish whether or not they are criminally responsible..simply because in the offenders mind, they did not do anything wrong.
so, i think kids in school should learn about their rights and the law. it makes it easier for those who want to obtain a degree in law to study the subject and not deal with the gazillion amendments.
