I might not have watched that many movies before, but Meet Joe Black is by far the most poetic movie I have ever seen. It covers and captures all sorts of love relationships beautifully, especially between Anthony Hopkins, the father and his daughters Claire Forlani and Marcia Gay Harden. Many might criticize the movie to be draggy and dreary, I admit it is excessively long for a simple story but the beautiful script makes the three hour movie worth it.. All actors had strong roles and beautiful characteristics, Anthony Hopkins drawing on the minutiae of life to bring his character to life, Brad Pitts spectacular performance as Death, Marcia Gay Hayden, the oldest daughter who needs to go to extraordinary lengths to be noticed and Claire Forlani, the earnest sweetheart who loves the father above all. The settings throughout, were also simply- gorgeous, polished but gorgeous, especially Anthony Hopkins 65th Birthday party towards the end of the movie . Thomas Newmans music scores throughout the movie and the famous
Israel Kamakawiwo' ole's were just brilliant.
Here's an extract of the summary from the website;
Meet Joe Black tells the story of a media tycoon William Parrish (Anthony Hopkins), whose charmed life and orderly household are suddenly disrupted by an arrival of an enigmatic young man named Joe Black (Brad Pitt) who proceeds to fall in love with Parish's beautiful daughter Susan (Claire Forlani). For Parish, Susan and the rest of his family, the consequences of this romance are profound, complicated and bittersweet, for Joe Black is actually the personification of Death.
One of my many favorite quotes from Meet Joe Black.
Jamaican Woman: It nice it happen to you. Like you come to the island and had a holiday. Sun didn't burn you red-red, just brown. You sleep and no mosquito eat you. But the truth is, it bound to happen if you stay long enough. So take that nice picture you got in your head home with you, but don't be fooled. We lonely here mostly too. If we lucky, maybe, we got some nice pictures to take with us.
So
